Review Of The Olympus DS-330

The Olympus DS-330 is a splendid digital voice-recorder from Olympus, manufacturers of digital equipment. Dictation machines are generally used for recording long speeches, which can be heard later on as per ones desire. Tape-recorders and digital voice-recorders both fall into this category. Earlier on the tape-recorder was the most preferred and widely used method for sound recording. It wasn’t until the 1990’s that digital voice-recording replaced tape-recording. Digital dictation makes use of memory chips that allow voice to be stored in them, a method far more convenient than magnetic cassettes. Furthermore the evolution of technology has made it possible for computers to reproduce the vocal dictation in written form. Digital voice-recording is mostly used by journalists, television spokespeople and even by university students.

The reason why digital voice-recorders are used by students is simple – it is far easier to just record a lecture than scribble notes for hours on end. The Olympus DS-330 digital voice recorder is the best in digital dictation. It has a sleek and economical design and comes for very reasonable price of $200. It has a small and easy to carry frame, measuring just 9.5 by 6.8 by 4 inches and weighing slightly over one pound. It allows easy transfer of audio files, via USB, for both MAC and PC users. It supports a highly decipherable screen that lights up at the touch of its controls. It has a 16 Megabit memory that allows recording at two different speeds. The short playback can record for 155 minutes while the long playback course allows 330 minutes of recording. PCMag gave it a four star rating and reviewed the Olympus DS-330 to have the best voice quality in digital dictation, and states that the audio it records to clear even nosier backgrounds.

It also comes with an internal organizer that allows five folders each able to contain a maximum of 199 files. The backlit display makes it easier to use under poor lighting conditions. Furthermore once plugged into your PC or MAC it can replace your microphone and speaker devices and the DS 330 also comes with a headphone slot. Though it originally records all it audio in Digital Speech Standard, it comes with a software that allows the files to be easily converted to WAV format. Maintenance wise it is easily manageable as it comes with batteries and they usually last for two weeks. While Amazon.com gives it an average rating of three and half stars, majority of its users having given it a full five star rating ensuring it to be worth its money.
